How to master sewing in 3 weeks!

This time around, I managed to get myself familiar with..sewing! yey!! All my life, I have never use sewing machine. There was no one teaches me how to use machine. This maybe due to no one in my family is into sewing. So, I don`t know anything about sewing. 

When I got married, oh my, boys..they always tore their pants. In fact when I just got my machine, I asked husband what can I sew for him, he handed me a mountain of tore pants T_T I spent the whole night figuring out how to repair all those pants. It was not as easy as making a new dress I tell you T_T 

Recently, I took 3 months break just to enjoy my life a bit. I have always in mission all my life, to complete one task after another, to fill expectations, and etc. So, I`m married, I guess I`m entitle to slow down and smell the flower for a while. Let husband worries about everything else for a moment. 

During the 3 months, alhamdulillah, I managed to get as many things done. This I put on hold just because life was in the way. One of it was of course the making of AkikoInc, and another major accomplishment in my life, I have to say is acquiring the skill of sewing. 

Being the best husband in the world, of course he is the biggest supporter for whatever I want to do. It is worrying though because sometimes he cannot differentiate whether I was just hallucinated or I was fully awake when saying things -_-" I hope I would never say "I think I would like to try jumping off the cliff..you know...just to get the feeling of adrenaline" Next thing I know..we are on a cliff somewhere -_-"

Ok, back to the sewing project. Here`s how to master sewing in 3 weeks!

1) Have yourself introduced to the machine you plan to buy.

Of course, before everything else, you have to ask around for advice from people you know loves sewing. Better, someone who live for sewing. Don`t worry..they are everywhere and these people usually are passionate and bersemangat to answer any of your questions. 

After all the surveys (tanya 2 orang je pun) I had a bit of introduction to use a sewing machine from husband`s cousin (Nurul) who I think was more bersemangat compared to the student herself (me). haha. Then with this short introduction, I used it to start my own project. Both of them recommend me to get a Brother sewing machine. So I did. Being with a semangat tinggi cikgu (yakni: Nurul) she brought me to the Brother service center and...the expo at the KLCC. So that I can have a clear view of which machine I will buy. After all that, I found out the Brother models in Japan are totally different from Malaysia`s. duh -_-" Turned out, there are about millions (to me) model of Brother sewing machine in Japan. adoiyai..and I could hardly tell what`s the difference. So, to not get a free headache, I decided to choose based on color. Pink it is <3 p="">

I.LOVE.IT! No regret! The machine is so easy to use, and so friendly to a beginner like me!

2) Shopping!! 

Now you have a machine ready. Now comes the best part. Shopping for materials. Before, I don`t appreciate fabrics other than those to make your baju raya. Like silk, chiffon silk, flowery cottons. All those cliche fabrics. Now, I know more, my eyes are going wilder whenever I step into a fabric store. Before, I only went to a level where there put japanese cotton to make baju kurung. Because that is all  I know. Now, I started to appreciate fabrics other than them which is of course, not a good news to le husband. But I love it! I feel it it my mind that another DHA bridge is connecting. A skill that is not written in a book! I can now differentiate different kind of fabrics and how can I use them in different projects. I am so proud of myself. Husband also partially happy for now he has a new way to bribe me.

This is the aftermath from my 3rd visit (major) to the fabric store. Otsukaya, I love you!!! This fabric store is definitely the deal breaker to live in Nagoya!

3) Familiarize yourself with the machine.

I met some people who likes sewing and can sew but never handle sewing machine. These people usually don`t have clue how to handle a sewing machine. So, they don`t know what to expect. That`s why, for me and them, it is important to familiarize ourselves with machine. This is important to get the feeling how the machine works and of course experience is the best teacher. I too, made a lot of mistakes and that`s where I learn many tricks. 

To familiarize, sew something easy like pillowcase, fridge`s cover, and the covers of everything that needs protection from dust (or you are just addicted to play with the sewing machine and decided to make covers for everything-that`s yours truly).

After that, start sew something easy, for example, skirt!

Another tip for a total beginner, is to always use cotton first. You know, the fabric is not cheap, so make sure you know what you are doing or it will be wasteful!

4) Buy a Japanese sewing book.

This is the best shortcut ever! The best teacher for me. Everything is in the book, I tell you even a buta huruf person can understands it (of course..I can`t read kanji). I bought 3 books, but after completing one book, I sorta gets everything. Whenever I see a dress, I instantly get how it was done! I don`t know how it happened, but yes, tetibe je jadi pandai. And the urge to buy new clothes become the urge to make the clothes myself, the way I like it to be. I really love how the skills has turned me into.

5) Challenge yourself to the next level

After doing the exercise from the Japanese sewing book, I started to understand the construction of a dress. All the tricks learned from the book, I used it to try making a dress from my imagination, using my own body as the mannequin. A satisfaction that is hard to get when you buy a ready-made dress!

One of the earliest project based on imagination. After a lot of mistakes and re-construction, finally here is my checkered collection which consist of a maxi dress and a round-pocket skirt.

Then I go higher by making two more maxi dress. I love the Royal Iman from Love to Dress so much, so I made another one in soft pink. I made it! That one cost me roughly RM12 (kain only 3.5m and the kain costs me RM3/m) bahaha.
After I gained confidence with the handling of the machine, and fabric cutting, I decided to get up the notch by using chiffon silk. Just because chiffon silk in Otsukaya are dirt cheap!

Then when I don`t know what else to do (because I pretty much sewn everything I wish to), I started to accept orders. Yes, you read it right, I take orders. bahahah. Left is a wash jacket I made for...myself and Burberry inspired pyjama for none other than my naughty baby boy! He wears it all the time, and some people even complimented him for being so rich wearing baju tidur Burberry -_-" Now the secret is out!

I only able to play with my machine for 3 weeks. Then I had to leave. Here I am now, in KL..working T_T another whole lot of story.

Paper bag: How it was easily made.

Anda semua masih ingat entry 'nikah doorgift'? which shows my nikah goodies packed in pink paper bag?

in which I promised to show you all the way to fold it? err yes..about 2 years ago??:S 

Gomennasai! *tunduk kuat-kuat selame 15 minit di situ*

Anyways, tadi I ter're-publish' my wedding album in facebook *_*

Not long after that, my friend asked me about that pink paper bag:P

And suddenly I had the urge to pay my entry debt about the bags which I owed so many of you which I am much convinced...dah selamat kahwin dah pun...*Gomen ne T____T*

So, it happened that I have some extra wrapping papers here in my office. I just bought a nice sellotape too :P

The folding only took me about 2 minutes to accomplish.

So, I think I got no more reason to postpone it. Here we go ^_^

Goodie bag lipat sendiri tanpa perlu mengukur

1. Lipat any wrapping paper of your interest kepada 8 bahagian yang sama.  

Lipat horizontally dulu into two parts.

And lipat sampai jadi gini..senang kan?

2. So now, you ada 8 petak kan?That's to make 4 bags. So, every 2 petak represent one bag. So, cut out 2 petak together like below.

2 petak yang dah di gunting keluar.

3. Next, pertemukan the two ends di tengah-tengah n selotepkan (untuk hasil yang lebih kemas, use double-sided tape)

So, you got a hollow shape gini.

 4. Next, get the most bulky gift you have to be used to budget the tapak (usually only needed for the first time, after that you will be so pandai agak:])

*This step is important as it will determine the size of the whole bag.

So, mine that day, the bulkiest was a box of tat nenas. So the lebar about this la. I have also a small yaasin book and tasbih. Both have no concern for the tapak:]

So, lipat ketat-ketat :]

 5. Lipat tapak cantik-cantik and kemas-kemas just like you wrap a present:) The ukuran tapak previously will give a fair adjustment for the height and lebar tepi juga. 

Lipat tepi dulu kuat-kuat.

and close the other side. Seal every sisi with selotape.

Lipat tapak tu macam ni.

 6. Now, kita buat sisi bag pula.

Just lipat both ends ke tengah macam ni. Lebarnya ditentukan oleh tapak tadi ^_^

 7. Kemaskan sisi.

Now, kembungkan bag anda. You will see something like this. ALmost done right?? ^_^

You all akan dapati lipatan sisi will be somehow not well defined. So, just press nicely according to the lines.

Then you'll get a well defined bag lines ^_^

 8. Hiaskan. Ini terpulang pada anda. Di sinilah anda boleh menjadi kreatif and mencipta keunikan :)

Last time, I just seal my bag with a ribbon. This is also a trick for a good finishing for the whole ensemble, also save time and cost! ^_^V 

*Tadi I ukur, my bag's measurement is about 11.5cm x 7cm (tapak), 23cm (height-unfold).

Favourite shades...EFER!!!!

I don't love makeups. 

Don't really like to put them on my face. For everyday basis I mean. 

Plus, my job not require me to put some. Who je yang nak tonton kot..Tambah2 di Jepun ni majoriti patients ialah 70 and above yang yours truly clerk:/

Oh, and my colleagues here (99% are Japanese and 20% are ladies) came to work bare faced. They just walk into the crowd with their flawless pinkish skin!>.< I am so so envy and feeling puzzle! How la they got such pretty skin!

Moving on..

Tapi kan, I realized, I am now a ladies. Sikit-sikit kenala pandai put on little make ups especially bila dah kahwin. Believe it or not, I only being extra conscious about make up ni, just after being married. 

Masa single (and not available) dulu, tak ada maknanya...plus, I have a sister who even sleeps with make up on:|

So, whenever "suddenly" I have to put on make up, oh..we share the same dressing table (enough said:P).

With seldom makeup routine, I have to make sure the purchased makeups won't easily compromised in their quality provided that I'm going to mainly keep them in my makeup box most of the time:P

I did experiments. Buy this and that. In conclusion, best make ups are those come in a higher price. 

Only some are good yet affordable (which you have to be lucky to stumble upon them..or..ask your make up guru:P [like yours truly])

I did many mistakes in buying shades. Yang paling menyampah about shades is when they tak stick to your skin :/ sometimes you have to rub them hard from the case and rub even harder to apply them on your eyelid. Benci sunggoh!Sometimes they refused to blend..leaving the 'tekejut' effect :/

And then, came my savior..

If you are my follower tegar, you must know my 'weird' relationship with SCR :P Beliau ni..memang la suke kale2kan muke beliau dengan mekap..Sebab tu la die cantik je memanjang (hahahaha)..

Atas keprihatinan beliau dengan nasib golongan seperti yours truly yang asyik silap membeli kalah memakai ni, maka beliau decided untuk menjadi tokey barangan mekap..

Pastu, yours truly pun macam fikir jugak la kan..."Biar betul..murahnya mekap dia jual...brand apa nih??" (hahahaha)..

p/s: Yelah...teman ni pengetahuan mekap ni memang takat buku lali je kan..haha

Because I trust her taste (and yeah..her choices so far are never not good. That's fact.), I bought some product. Basic stuff for beginner jek..hehe..

Two eye shadow palette consist of essential colors much for beginners and seldom 'mekapers' like yours truly :P My imagination kan..appearance and bekas kualiti maybe like those I can find in Sinma or kedai seketurunan Sinma (sebab harge tokeh ni jual murah sgt!). Tetapi sangkaan yours truly sangat tidak tepat! Nak tahu??try pegang Dior's make up pallete...hehe
One blush used for 'pengurus pipi' due tu my square face :/ sebab tak reti buat...akhirnya jadi blusher jek:/ Tapi texturenye....awesome!>.<

I never heard of NYX. Honest!But I saw kedai NYX bersepah kat Jakarta..and it is one of the exclusive makeup booth! Well, you don't have to go all the way to Jakarta to try NYX..
Just do like yours truly..arah2 kan aje si Pn.Liyana tu..suruh poskan kat you ols..lagipun die kata die tengah dalam misi kuruskan bdn...so, sesuai sangatla you ols letak order banyak2..biar die ulang alik pegi pos ofis...bahahaha...

My shawl system

There's this one time when I open my twitter account and found this one friend of mine (ok...it's SCR:P) discussing about 'how we keep our shawl". And because all of you sure have noticed, I wear shawl almost all the time. I know wearing shawl is so much tedious than awning style tu. However, for me who lives in foreign country, tudung awning is out of choice sebab x boleh nk dibawa solat di tepi2 jalan:D (yes, we have to perform our solat at very random places, sometimes, with people staring at you). So, if you wear tudung awning, your forehead might not be able to touch the tempat bersujud. Maka..x pela tudung awning oi..haha..Apart from that, hubby hates to the guts me wearing tudung awning. X paham sunggoh btol knapenye >.<

Oleh yang demikian, SCR telah mengesyaki bahawesenye I ada my own shawl system:P 

I saw people have started buying the loop hanger tu ye?Kat pasar malam ada banyak jual. But I really cannot use that. huhu..sebab nant menjurai2..and bila dah tarik satu..nak sangkut balik langgar yang lain2 pula..lama2 menjadi fed-up. I know I can't go with that system. 

So, apparently, my closet in my apartment provided me with small shelf hanging on its wall.

Tu die small shelf yang panjang. So, lipat tudung and make sure they are stack nicely so you can see the corak of the  shawl.

Then, after dah habis pakai, sampai rumah, bukak and lipat balik the shawl. But most of the time, I was tired..I just campak semua dlm laundry basket. On laundry day, if I feel the necessary to wash them, I'll proceed or if not, I just lipat and put it back on the shelf.

Don't worry about the messiness because since you lipat kecik2, they are so easy to grab ^_^

When you susun, make sure you can have the sneak peek of the tudung. So, you detect shawl in your mind in a instant, especially in the morning to work:D

Gift packs Idea.More.

This blog has used to be a wedding blog (which I found is the least useful wedding blog ever?>.<).

Well, one of the thing I had and still passionate about is the doorgift packs:) 

Ok, cut the talk, let's go straight to the random ideas caught by me recently:)

I've been writing about hyakuen (100 en) shop in Japan since forever. I think they really awesome in producing creative giftpacks!>.< However, I took those which I think can be produced using raw materials easily found anywhere, thus lowering the total cost (yela kan..kita kan nak guna dalam kuantiti yang banyak:))

One pack consists of 3. If convert, this pack costs us about rm3.7  (but if using Japan en, of course terlalu murah).

So, what say you if we produce them ourselves. It's very simple yet practical and cute. You can paste or hang your Tq tag there. The gold ribbon really help giving the rich look. I never seen this style from the B2b blog before (or I just missed it:p yela..blogwlaking pun jarang T_T)
What you need: Brown paper bag (very cheap and can easily be found in bundle amount), gold rope (any kedai riben available), and self-designed tq-tag! 

I love the cuteness of these packs. Ok, I am biased..cz I always have a thing with satin ribbon:p Tapi kalau nak belikan dah mahal..this is so much easier and looks about the same with my own reception doorgift packs (unfortunately my OP missed it :/)

Here's the close up. What you need just self folded paper bag (which I stil owe you guys the step by step post T_T) and..satin ribbon or whatever ribbon of your likings :D.

Konbanwa!!

I planned to spend tonight writing in this blog. My mind was flooded with ideas this afternoon. But I refrained myself to write in here as I got so much reading to do!
It's so tiring to hold your mind back some times when so many ideas filled up your brain at the same time..and you are already exhausted!
So, I chose to do work that have to be done at their proper time.
In fact I promised myself to neglect all the social networks available in this world..and put my full attention to work!
I think my weakness would be ..focusing on things which do not have..entertainment value=(
Looks like I should be working in media related company=p instead of doing this healing people thingy T_T

Oh well..let's go straight to the point.

I always love sewing..
Maybe because I love fashion, dresses..baju ape2la..I love to own them..to fashion them to take care of them.
But due to money constrain..I always wish that I could sew my own dress!the least I wanna sew my kids' dresses. InsyaAllah..
However, due to never ending books education in my life..(tsk2..) I never have the time to learn sewing. But I always draw the way of doing sewing in my mind. It's just that..you cannot draw the skill of using sewing machine T_T..
So, I usually used my own hands to produce small products like pencil case, hp case..and all the cases for things that could fit in cases..hehe..

I always wonder..is sewing manik that difficult till you could get charged for bucks for a simple design (which just a straight line..double price if the line was doubled). So I decided to try..since I need to get rid of my husband's image in my head..(yes..he inhabited most of it!it's hard for me to be productive!Sorry sayang=|..n of course that doesn't work). Plus, when you have tried something that you think possible for you to do..hm..I will feel another satisfaction in my life=)

The problem was..I am in Japan..I don't have any dress that needed manik improvisation. Hmm..what do I do?
You know The Facebook?? I must say FB is one of the greatest invention of our time!
I shouted on my wall.."for those who would like to give their baju kurung as my lab rat..please drop a comment in the comment box".
In a blink of an eye..I got one.hehe..

To show my appreciation..I will not charge her for the manik..but of course she has to be ready for the outcome=p

When she handed me the baju..I was having a minor palpitation..haha..coz she said she wanted to wear the dress for her graduation??!!what??!!haha..

So I was determined to try my best..
I got a lot of ideas..seriously a lot..
I was tired of thinking which design suits her and the dress..
Finally..I just let my hand decides..

As the charcoal touch the dress, everything happens so fast..and..tadaaa


The overall look..I don't know whether she will like this..I don't really like the color unfortunately..but I think this is the best choice that suits the person and the dress's color..
again..this is subjective=p

Doily and brown paper bag

Konbanwa..

It was a hard day for me. Have to went through 24 hours knowing that person that I care was out enjoying snow without me T_T.. I waited for years to be united and enjoy our life together after sooo long. Never thought that when the time arrived, I am still stuck in the same condition T-T..I accept this fate and understands it as a way I pay for my sins.. (probably..). Hopefully, I will be able to do things that I have imagined for a veeerrryyy long time with him in no time. Pray for that=)

Oh well, what am I babbling here T_T sorry..

While on a mission of killing time, like always, I spend some time wandering around the malls..looking at always renewed rare items on the shelf of Japanese stores..hehe..and tell you..as days passed by, I met with even rare people..hehe

This is one thing that I found cute and cheap ideas for the doorgift packs ^_^

Brown paper bag which you could find everywhere and doily papers work wonders!!

I don't know you guys..but I certainly had thought about using brown paper bag for my receptions gifts. However, my mom didn't like it..so, I ended up folding my own pink paper bags T_T..

As my earlier days of browsing ideas for my 'cheap wedding', I came across with lots of ideas using this brown paper bag. I'm sure most of you guys also had seen it ^_^..But, I never seen the bags got improvised with doily papers!(or..I just missed it=p)

Love the string..left the pack with touch of vintage ^_^

Have you guys been to Floristika??

I went there once in searching for blue flowers (my e-day's theme was blue). But, I went home empty handed cz there were none in blue T_T (ade hydrangeas tp ade due je T_T waaaa).

So, I was forced to use artificials.

I didn't had good reason to go there during my wedding since I used wedding planner. So, all on them.

For my sister's wedding, I determined to make her hand bouquet. I was longed dreaming to make hand bouquet by myself. hehe..So, my sister had no choice=p

I was so excited to go here. I love seeing roses!

See...sgt banyak n murah!about rm1/stalk ^_^V but u hv to buy by bunch like that. For roses and eustoma, price about rm23-30

My favourite?Of course red roses..

I wandered around the store looking for flowers suited to my sister's dress..But I could not help it..I bought red roses T_T
Besar kan??Can you guys imagine how fening I was choosing flowers??o_O

If you guys thinking of using fresh flowers and in a tight budget..opt for orchid, carnation, kekwas and seangkatan dengannya..they are all within rm10 for a bunch ^_^

Same goes for the fillers..bug bouquet of them for rm9.90. Some are exclusive and much expensive. Tak payah la...fillers je=p

Lillies much more expensive esp, calla lillies. Conclusion, big size flower cost you bigger bucks=p I almost bought lillies. a bouquet (about 10 stalks, i forgot, rm50)

How?--> (Jalan Bangsar heading to Kuala Lumpur): Take left turn tu Jalan Riong. In Jalan Riong, take first turn to Jalan Liku..then you see Floristika's building (behind NSTP). So easy!

Ehehe...Just got back from nihongo kurasu...

My gloominess became double just now cz..after long chat about wanting a baby last night, just now I check..it is indeed a false alarm "T_T..

Nk study teros??bluerghh..no..

Then, I stumbled upon a blog by Nini (I guess that's her name;p). Oh yeah, she introduced hersef as 'the bubblyme" from here.

She is looking for a material to do paper flowers.

Suddenly I remembered that I have seen the paper flowers tu and intended to post it here to share with the other b2bs.

Apparently I forgot, until I find out that some one is looking for it;p ahaha...

Okeh, my house..is like 2 minutes away from 100yen (hyakuen) shop. In this shop you'll find almost everything and 95% of it cost 100 yen. So cheap. Hence, 95% of my house is occupied with stuffs from there. ahaha..Just name it, and i can assure you that they came from the 100yen shop;p

Besides dustbins, scissor, towel, toothbrush..yadda2..which are listed in ur daily needs, hyakuen shop also sell the unthinkable stuff like this!

weee...yeah..it's flower paper;)comes in many colours. When you see closer, the flower is quite bushy and cute!Can be use as your deco for dulang hntrn or even as a corsage. However, I was thinking of something different like maybe...bunga manggar..oh yes, the bunga manggar will b tembam n bloom2..hehe

It's a DIY stuff..look at the instruction..not that difficult isn't it??one or two try outs, then you make 100 in no time;)

Oh well, of course you are not at all near to my house.

However, if you look closer to the instruction, it was actually just crepe paper folded into a fan..and kembang2 kan..cantula..hv to try n error..

Aaa..I miss the moment of me DIY almost all my doorgifts;) the sakit pinggang tu priceless;p

DIY-family corsage

Salam ladies..

How's puasa??

Being away with my family as Ramadhan started really are testing me. I'm trying my best to be a wife. I have never do house chores before this (honestly T_T)..and I am so touched when my husband teaches me one thing to another. But, it's strange that actually, I know how to cook=p And he complemented all my dishes so far (and all been cooked by me for the first time of my entire life=p). Tp x tipu..mmg sedap..ahahahah=p

Ok, mari kite stopkan aktiviti memuji diri sendiri ini..

Without further ado, let's start with a DIY session.

One of the thing that I REALLLLLY want to DIY was corsage. Most importantly family corsage. Let them say what they want about me being fussy about corsage. Skati la kan..haha..

Pictures do paint a thousand words. So, you will see a lot of pics. Yela, to show u the steps;)

Let's start!

You need: Gam tembak (oho...every b2b sure must have this. It works wonder. You can produce a baju kurung using this gam u know=p). and a fern leaf.

Drop the melted glue on the leaf. Better put the glue kt tpt yg keras sket.

Next step, paste the rose on top of it. Oh, I chose this rose becoz that's the red colour that I love and this fake rose is blooming=)

Now u see a remaining dawai at the bottom kan..so, it's ugly. We then will cover that up with a ribbon. Melt some glue there.

And paste a ribbon.

Flip it, and put glue at the back to paste a pin.

Make sure u locate the pin at teh right place or it will drop when u pin in on baju, k. U can agak2 or u can do try n error.

So, thats my corsage. Total cost 60cents. What left to argue for as long as I get the rose that I want=p
